A Hot Week Ahead

Hello everyone and good Monday to you! Today kicks off another week and man will this one be a hot one! Highs will be in the upper 80s for much of the work week. Could some locations hit a 90? We'll get to that in a bit.

There is a slight risk for severe thunderstorms today but that will stay to our north, but we can not rule out a chance for a few thunderstorms in our area though. The next thing is about these warm temperatures. The conditions on a day like today reminds me of the three H's of summer. Hazy, Hot, and Humid. You can take the Hazy part off thought as we will not see any hazy conditions out there but the heat and humidity will be in place.

The temperatures will be on top of the weather headlines for this week. Especally on Wednesday and Thursday where there will be less of a storm threat and that means a even higher chance of the temperatures soaring into the upper 80s and maybe even a 90 or two. Even this weekend will be hot, the Kentucky Oaks and the Kentucky Derby will be hot. Drink plenty of water and dress on the cool side!

This week sure is shaping up to be the warmest week so far of 2012! Is this any sign of whats to come for Summer? We'll just have to wait and find out! Have a great Monday everyone and take care! :)

Severe Thunderstorms Is Back

Hello everyone and good late Saturday morning to you out there. Today we will have a very warm and windy day ahead of those severe thunderstorms that will fire up and move in here later today.

Here is the Storm Prediction Center's latest product, check it out here:

Most of Kentucky is in this but I would say all of the state has a good chance of seeing thunderstorms at some point today.

These storms will mainly be damaging winds, and large hail producers. On Thursday some storms produced tennis sized hail stones! Wow! Thats impressive for it being in Kentucky ;). There's the chance for it happening again today!

Today temperatures will be in the upper 70s fo highs for most of the state. Temperatures in southern Kentucky are already there! The winds will start to crank up and that will be ahead of any storm that pops.

I'll have more updates throught out the day on facebook as I send out those quick updates! Have a great Saturday everyone and take care! :)

Storms, Storms, And Oh, More Storms

Good Friday morning everyone and welcome back to the blog! The last two days has been filled with stormy ones around here and today looks to be our break in the action as Saturday looks to be another active one here on the homefront for us. Let's get to it folks.

First things first, today will be a more quiet day with a chance for a stray shower or thunderstorm. Highs look to be in the 70s  for most locations especally in the south and to the west. A warm front moves back through here late tonight and along it could be a few showers or a stray thunderstorm. Tomorrow temperatures soar into the mid and upper 70s with thunderstorms back in our area. We do have a slight risk for severe thunderstorms tomorrow. Check it out here:

Thats most of kentucky in the slight risk! Large hail, and damaging winds are the main threats. We're still a day away from this unfolding so I'll keep an eye on it. I do expect the slight risk line on the southern edge to extend a bit further south, but we'll see.

80 degree temperatures looks very likely for most of next week! That may bring chances of thunderstorms with it as well. Take a look at the temperature forecast from the GFS model for Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday:

Can you say 85 degrees? Can you say time to go to the lake? ;) I sure can!

Have a great day everyone and take care! :)

More Severe Thunderstorms

Hello everyone and welcome back to the blog on yet another active weather day for us! Yesterday evening/night we saw a few rounds of showers and thunderstorms move through the area and some of those storms did go severe but the good news is there was very little damage. I am currently running on very little sleep and have no signs on catching back up on it as we have a slight risk for more severe thunderstorms through out the day today, check it out here:

As you can see thats most of the state of Kentucky in that slight risk, the best chance being in southern and southeastern Kentucky. We saw a few severe thunderstorms move though the area early this morning and they did cause some minor damage along the way mainly trees being downed.

Today temperatures will warm back up into the low and mid 70s for highs and that will trigger the thunderstorms to develop in the late afternoon to early evening hours. The main threats with these thunderstorms is large hail, and damaging winds. Of course you can't forget about the locally heavy rains and frequent cloud to ground lightning.

Like always if any watches or warning are issued or if I just want to give you all an update on the weather or any changes I'll send out quick updates via Facebook! Have a great Thursday everyone and take care! :)

Slight Risk For Severe Thunderstorms!

Hello everyone and welcome back to the blog on your Wednesday. We have a chance for severe thunderstorms today and it looks to be a late evening to overnight event. Take a look at the latest SPC (Storm Prediction Center) outlooks:

The main threats with these thunderstorms is large hail, damaging winds, and the chance for an isolated tornado or two. Take a look at the tornado chances for today:

The highest chance being in northern Kentucky but as you can see most of southern, central, and eastern Kentucky is in this with at least a small chance of seeing a tornado.

Today looks to be a nice day for the most part with high temperatures in the 70s across the state with plenty of sunshine! It will be later today when the thunderstorms start to fire up to our northwest ahead of a sinking cold front and move in here late in the evening into the overnight hours.

I will have more updates later with quick updates via Facebook! Have a great Wednesday everyone and take care! :)

Spring Snowstorm East!

Hello everyone and welcome to the blog on this cold Sunday! You all are about to say "What the heck???" when I tell you the forecast ahead... Especally for tonight. So let's get to it shall we? ;)

SNOW! Is in the forecast for tonight and we're talking about a snowstorm to our east! Some models were talking about upwards of 2 feet of snow to the Appalachians! Wow!
Take a look at the NAM map for snowfall projections:
Thats the potential for a dusting in the eastern parts of the state for tonight! Snow tonight but for Wednesday into Thursday we have a chance for strong to severe thunderstorms! This is going to be a busy weather week and that always means a busy week for this weather dude ;)

I'll have more updates later today as the system moves in and I hope I can get a full update in later today if not it will be up tomorrow. Have a great Sunday everyone and take care! :)

Beautiful Thursday!

Hello everyone and welcome back to the blog on this beautiful Thursday! This morning started out on a foggy note and will end on a sunny, beautiful one ;).

High temperatures will be in the low to mid 70s with plenty of sun across the area. Tomorrow you can expect the same but with an increasing shot at some showers and thunderstorms ahead of a cold front that will move in here later in the day tomorrow. Here's what the GFS is thinking:
Saturday will feature temperatures struggling in the 50s for highs and could get even cooler for Sunday through Tuesday. The bright side of this cool down is that temperatures will be back and nearing 80 degrees by the end of the week. In the mean time temperatures for Monday and Tuesday mornings may reach the freezing mark so bundle up!

Have an awesome rest of your Thursday and take care everyone! :)

Wild Weekend Ahead

Hello everyone and welcome back to the blog! Today temperatures have been on the cool side and will continue to be through out the day today. The further west you live the warmer the temperature will be. In western Kentucky temperatures could reach the mid to upper 70s while here in the east some areas struggle to 60 degrees!

Temperatures head back in the right direction for your day tomorrow and on Friday. Mid to upper 70s and nice conditions. After that things gets wild! A big dip in the jet stream will able a nice storm to develop and move throught the mid atlantic states for Sunday into Monday. Now if this was still winter time it could have been a snow producer but we are in spring and temperatures will be too warm for that ;).

BUT!!! Look at the Canadian Model, it takes things to the Extreme!
If the Canadian Model holds true then that WOULD mean more than just cold and rain. You fill in the blanks ;). That is something this weather dude does not want to see this time of year especally when we're in spring now and I wish I could keep it warm for you, but I only tell the weather I can't change it!

Have a great Wednesday everyone and take care! :)

Windy Monday, More Changes Ahead

Hello everyone and welcome back to the blog on this warm, yet windy Monday. I know your probably tired of hearing me say this but the title of this post says it all: more changes is on the way. If you have ever be on a rollercoaster you will know how this will be. Up and down, up and down.

Today we have the chance of some isolated showers before 7pm with our low temperatures falling towards the 50 degree mark. Winds could get a bit gusty right around 20mph on the gusts at times. Tomorrow looks to be an overall good day. Highs around 66 with light winds. Tomorrow night into Wednesday a chance of showers will be with us. Highs near 68. Some mornings temperatures will be in the mid to upper 40s.

This weekend I'm more worried about a cool down with temperatures into the low 50s for highs! Low temperatures could get close to 32 once again. Look at the GFS Ensembles to see for yourself!
In some areas of eastern Kentucky thats at least 12 degrees below normal! Now in the month of April I call that cold! ;) I still expect several cold shots before we enter full fledge spring. This chilly air may extend into the early part of next week.

I'll post more as needed! Have a great evening everyone and take care! :)

Beautiful Start To The Weekend!

Hello everyone and welcome back to the blog on this beautiful Friday morning! I am very sorry for the lack of posts lately as I have been fighting yet another sickness :/. Anyways I should be 100% this time and back to myself! Today we will see plenty of sun with highs warming back to the mid to upper 60s!

All is calm with the weather here in Kentucky. I just wanted to show you how messy things are looking for tomorrow out in the midwest states. Let's just say I hope everyone will be okay. Take a look:
That 60% is a high risk for severe thunderstorms and a tornado outbreak looks like it will happen in the midwest states. I am so glad we are not seeing none of that, but my thoughts are still with those people whom live out in that area.

Back to our weather here, like I said above high temperatures today will rise into the mid to upper 60s for highs, with mainly sunny skies. Tomorrow we will see much of the same with high temperatures back into the 70s right around 75 degrees. On Sunday we'll see temperatures closing in on 80 degrees for highs in alot of locations, and on Monday temperatures back down towards the low 70s for highs with some thunderstorms moivng in.

Like always I will have more updates as needed via facebook. Have a great Friday everyone and take care! :)

Cold Nights Ahead!

Hello everyone and welcome back to the blog on this Tuesday morning. I am sorry about the lack of posts lately I've been fighting a Illness. I'm feeling alot better and I am back to my normal weather dude self! ;). Anyways let's get to it shall we?

Today the winds will be cranking up and could get as high as 30mph! Temperatures will be in the upper 50s for highs and some locations may be in the low 60s as well. Temperatures for tonight will be in the tank, and when I say in the tank thats not good. It means that low temperatures tonight will be in the upper 20s to low 30s! Cover up your flowers and any other plants!

Wednesday looks to be the coldest of the two nights with low temperatures for the majority of the state in the mid to upper 20s! On the bright side temperatures will come up towards the end of the week. Highs will then be in the upper 70s and low 80s. Take a look at the big temperature gradient across the country:
Along that cold front (the blue line with triangles on it) Will be the chance for strong to severe thunderstorms. Also notice the amount of cold air in Canada, thats still alot and that spells bad news for the rest of severe weather season meaning that there will be plenty of shots of cold air to run into the warm moist air from the gulf of mexico to cause severe thunderstorms.

I will have more updates as needed, have a great day everyone and take care! :)

Freeze Warning And Frost Advisory

A Freeze warning and A Frost Advisory is in efect for much of central and eastern Kentucky for late tonight into the morning. Check it out here: The Purple is Freeze Warnings and the Blue is the Frost Advisory.

Thats also a wake up call for those who have the green thumb! If you already have plants in the ground make sure you cover them up. Temperatures will recover nicely to the upper 60s for highs with plenty of sun! Now for your Easter Sunday morning temperatures will be in the mid to upper 30s with a few low 40s in the mix as well. A very small chance of an afternoon or evening shower as temperatures warm to the 60s for highs.

I am also looking out for an even stronger shot of cold air coming in the early next week in which some models suggest that a few snowflakes is possible.... Yes, sadily and with plenty of regret I said the word nobody wants to hear in the season of spring... SNOWFLAKES. :/ haha.

I'll keep you updated in any changes in the weather with quick updates via facebook. Have a great Friday everyone! :)

Cold Changes Ahead

Hello everyone and good morning to you. The last two days we saw strong to severe thunderstorms moved in and out of here and they were in no hurry at all. Some storms put down alot of rain and caused some flooding as well.

Today things start to chance, highs today will struggle to even reach the upper 50s for some areas and a few rain showers will linger around. Later today the skies looks to clear out and you know what that means, it means that temperatures are going to bottom out with lows right around freezing. 32 degrees, give or take a few. We will warm up quite nicely though with highs in the mid to upper 60s. Saturday morning looks to be about the same with low temperatures closing in on 32 degrees for the lows. High temperatures will also be in the mid 60s as well.

What about Easter Sunday? Alot of Easter dinners taking place, get the family together and maybe eat outside? I say thats a big yes on eating outside. temperatures will reach the upper 60s and a few 70s out there as well! A stray shower cannot be ruled out as a front tries to inch it's way closer.

The Canadian and GFS models are showing some cold air moving in for next week. For some of you thats the start for your spring break. Low temperatures will really be affected, some will be as low as 25 degrees! Ouch! Take a look for yourself:
Wow, didn't see that one coming did ya? High temperatures for some of those days will be like today and struggle, but they will struggle to get out of the low 50s for highs! That is below average for this time of year.

I'll have quick updates via facebook when needed. Have a great day everyone and take care! :)

More Storm For Your Wednesday!

Hello everyone and good afternoon to you, yesterday we had some strong to severe thunderstorms move through the area and they were slow movers that put down alot of rain in a short amount of time. We can expect more of the same for today as the Storm Prediction Center has our area in a slight risk for more severe thunderstorms today. Check it out:

As you can see the eastern half of the state is under the gun yet again for today. Large Hail, Damaging Winds, and heavy rains is the main threats as well as lightning with any storm that develops. Some storms may be on the severe side. The storms will really crank up in the early afternoon as the atmosphere becomes more unstable. That will be something to keep an eye on.

Early next week the models are pointing at a nice shot of cold air moving in for Monday and Tuesday and if this holds true it could mean a bumpy ride over the next little while as Spring tries to fight it's way back. Things are looking interesting in the near future.

More posts as needed and quick updates going out all day today on facebook as the storms begin to develop and if any warnings of any kind is issued. I'll keep you up to date. Have a great day everyone and take care! :)

Slight Risk For Severe Thunderstorms Today!

Hello everyone and welcome to the blog on this great Tuesday! As you know the Kentucky Wildcats brought home their 8th National Title last night. Ahhh it's good to have in back on Lexington ;). Anyways let's get to the point here shall we? :) Today we have a slight risk for severe thunderstorms, take a look at the SPC's convective outlooks:

Thats most of the state for today. Temperatures are in the upper 70s for many locations and could easily reach 80. We have alot of moisture streaming into our area and that will only help to increase of storm chances and that raises the dewpoints ( moistrue in the air). As the heating of the day starts the thunderstorms will really fire up and the clouds will be in as well even in the locations not affected by thunderstorms.

Large Hail, Damaging Winds, and of course as always cloud to ground lightning and very heavy rains is likely with any storms that does develop today. Most storms will only reach strong limits but a few may become severe. I'll be watching all day to keep you up to date on the severe weather risks.

Be sure to watch the radar at the bottom of the page to watch the storms fire up. I will post more as needed and quick updates via facebook! Have a great day everyone, GO BIG BLUE! Take care :)

Active Start To The Week

Hello everyone and good Monday to you, I am very sorry for the lack of posts over the past few days as it has been a busy couple of days for this weather dude. Anyways I should be back to my normal posting self :).

Let's get down to business as today has the potential to be a rocky start to the work week. A front is over the state from the northwest to southeast and that will be what sparks some showers and thunderstorms for today. Not only that temperatures will be wild! Nearing 90 degrees in the western parts of the state and some areas in the east and northeast could struggle to get out of the 60s!

The GFS rainfall output model is talking about some very heavy rains over our area for the next 2 weeks. Some areas of Kentucky could get up to 4 or even 5 inches of rain! Thats something that areas like Louisville doesn't need. They got hit hard with showers and thunderstorms yesterday which resulted in some street flooding and we don't want that around here.

Now back to todays thunderstorm chances, some of these storms that do pop up today has the chance to be on the strong side with large hail and damaging winds as the main threats. There is also the chance that one or two of these could go severe as well. Tomorrow the chances is about the same with once again the main threats being large hail, and damaging winds.

More posts later as needed and quick updates will go up on facebook as the storms develop and I will also keep you in the know if any of those storms goes severe. Have a great Monday everyone and be sure to cheer on the Cats! Go Big Blue! :)
